JLPT

This is going to be a short post.
I just got my results back for the JLPT, and I've passed level 1. w00t~

Quite honestly, I hate tests. I took level 2 of the JLPT last summer and also passed it.

Both were, of course, the new versions of the test.

As JLPT has switched to the new tests, publishers should be coming out with more books that are relevant to the new testing style.
I've seen the previous tests, but, I never actually signed up to take one of the "old" tests.

However, from what I've seen, the new test seems a lot easier on the eyes.
The font is larger, there is more space on the pages.
The test center says that the base to pass level 2 and level 1 is the same as the old tests (60% and 70% respectively).

The best advice I can give for study is to get study books that have whole "new" tests in them.
Take those tests, go to Kinkos (or whatever copy store) and make 4 copies of each test.
Try to have at least 3-4 tests.
Then, take the tests (as if you were taking the actual thing) over and over again until you get a "passing" score.

My bf told me that this was his (and most Japanese students) preferred method of study. Before, say, a math test, he'd buy a book of past tests and make about 4 or 5 copies of each test, and take them over and over until he was satisfied with his score.

Why this helps: It familiarizes you with the test. You also learn and solidify grammar patterns.

Certainly other books that focus only on grammar or kanji can be helpful. I would suggest using them, too. But, if you take 4 "new" practice tests, and pass them consistently with over 80% or 90%, you should be set.

Good luck studying!
